Customer Profile
Alamo Ranch homeowner with a 15-year old water softener that had previously been serviced by another water treatment company.
Water & Plumbing Situation
The homeowner had been satisfied with their existing water softener for many years, but recently began experiencing problems that indicated the system was no longer operating correctly. Their water source is municipal water. The homeowner contacted Alamo Water Softeners looking for an experienced local company that could determine whether the existing equipment could be repaired or needed to be replaced.
The Problem
The water was no longer being properly softened, hard water had returned to the home, and brown residue/buildup was appearing. The system also appeared to be regenerating repeatedly, creating concerns about wasted water and whether the equipment was beginning to fail.
Because the homeowner had invested in the existing equipment and hoped to repair it, their initial preference was to repair/rebuild the 15- year old system rather than replacing it.
The homeowner wanted a solution that
- Determine exactly what was wrong with existing equipment
- Repair/rebuild system if viable
- Restore reliable soft water throughout the home
- Provide clear replacement options if existing system could not be repaired
- Work with a reputable local company that would stand behind its installation and service
The Diagnosis
When the AWS technician arrived at the home, he performed a more thorough onsite evaluation of the existing equipment. During that inspection, it was determined that the softener had deteriorated beyond the point where repair/rebuild was a viable solution. He also discovered evidence that resin from the failed system had made its way into the home’s water lines.
This changed the original plan of repair, as that would not adequately address the condition of the equipment. The technician showed the homeowner what he found and explained why repairing the existing system was no longer recommended. More importantly, he made sure the homeowner understood the situation before discussing the next steps.
The Custom Solution
Once it was determined that the current system could not be repaired, Christopher presented the homeowner with several different replacement options. He explained the differences between the available systems, their features and costs, giving the homeowner the information needed to determine which solution made the most sense for their home.
After reviewing the options, the homeowner decided that replacing the failed 15-year old system with a new water softener was the best option. The service did not stop there…rather than requiring the homeowner to schedule another appointment for the installation, Christopher drove back to get the new equipment, returned to the home that same day to complete the installation of the water softener.
Selected Solution
- Replace the failed 15 year old water softener
- Restore reliable whole-home soft water
- Eliminate the problems associated with the deteriorated equipment
- Provide the homeowner with a new, dependable water treatment solution
- Completed the replacement installation the same day
The Results
From an Unexpected Diagnosis to a Same-Day Solution
The homeowner initially expected their existing water softener to be repaired. Instead, the onsite diagnosis revealed that the equipment had reached the end of its useful life and could no longer be repaired.
What could have been a frustrating surprise became an opportunity for the homeowner to make an informed decision. Christopher took the time to show the homeowner what was wrong, explain why the original plan needed to change, and present several options rather than simply telling them what to buy.
Once the homeowner selected their new system, Christopher went above and beyond to complete the replacement the same day. After the install, he also explained how the new equipment worked, how to care for it and what the homeowner could expect moving forward.
What the homeowner said…
“Water technician Christopher showed up in our time window, and then went above and beyond to help us with our softener. He diagnosed the problem, and then made sure we understood our options before moving forward with his work. We originally had scheduled a refurbish of our 15 year old machine, but upon arrival to our house, Christopher showed us how our softener was already too broken to repair. He took the time to show us that we already had resin from the machine in the water pipes in our house. So, we made the unexpected decision to purchase a new machine right there on the spot. He explained in detail the various models available and their costs. Instead of selecting another day to return and install a new softener, he drove all the way back to the store to get the new softener and then came back at the end of the day to install it! After the install, he explained how to take care of the machine, how it worked, and promised to do a drop-in in 2 weeks to check on us. The quality of service was impeccable.”
